Accelerated Reader Program

|
We
experience success together! One contributor to our
success is student participation in the Accelerated Reader
(AR) program. The AR program is an integral part of the
reading program in each grade level. Students are given
the STAR Reading test at the start of the year and again at
the end of each trimester. The results of this test enable
the student's teacher to establish a reading level, or
range, for the child. Students then select books in their
reading range, read the book, and take a test to determine
comprehension. Points are earned for each book completed.
The number of points awarded is based on the reading level,
and the number of questions answered correctly.
West Elementary continues to
have a remarkable number of points for our school-wide total
each year! That is exciting, but the most exciting
factor is the correlation between the increased time spent
reading and improved student achievement! Because we add so many tests throughout the year, the alphabetical and book level lists may not contain all test titles. Every effort will be made to keep the lists up-to-date. Your child may access the AR quiz lists from a school computer to check for specific titles that might not appear on these lists.
