The Alabama Department of Education advocates exemplary library media specialists and library media programs in public schools in Alabama to ensure that students, faculty, and staff have access "to information that is appropriate to student development and features diversity in perspective, format, and interest" (Literacy Partners, 1999, p. 3).

At West Elementary, we strive to meet and exceed these expectations.

Do you like Green Eggs and Ham?

Dr. Suess' Birthday is just one of the exciting days in the library

The West Elementary Library Media Center is full of excitement!  Books are being read, technology is being used and learning is definitely taking place!  Students are studying various authors and book series.  Students in all grades have an opportunity to increase their skills in the use of technology.   Students are learning how to access and use information from a variety of sources.  They are strengthening their reading comprehension and acquiring information literacy skills.    A library is no longer a place of ..... "sssshhhhhhhh, quiet!"   It is an active center of learning.  West Elementary's library media center is striving to meet that standard!

Come by and visit the Library Media Center soon!
